PIECES x EX;ANTE - Solar project capsule collection
This collection is collaborated with the emerging brand- PIECES, creating a highly utility accessories in modular usage to correspond to both of the ethos from Exanté and Pieces.
Collection Summary:
PIECES Studios x Exanté Capsule Collection PIECES Studios is a London based avant-garde fashion house founded by Nigerian born designer Ugo Anyamele. Known for their expressive take on denim, PIECES* showcases a unique blend of artistic fashion commentary. With a focus on craftsmanship and limited edition pieces, PIECES* offers a perspective that transcends traditional clothing, aiming to sell art rather than just garments. On the other hand, Exanté which was founded by fashion accessory designer Andry Chen, delves into the essence of inheritance and renewal through its dedication to leather craftsmanship. With a sustainable approach and a deep respect for traditional techniques, Exanté aims to create luxurious accessories that blend past stories with modern perspectives. Embracing technology to enhance creativity and sustainability, Exanté bridges the gap between heritage craftsmanship and contemporary design.
Concept brief:
Pieces is an east London emerging brand with significant materials such as hand-dyed recycle fabrics and denims; specialized in patch works forms, showing strong vision from the brand owner’s origin and the community - Nigeria. With bulk, rebellious and futuristic street style, garments from Pieces are reflecting to the asthetic among the young generation and the regional culture.
Initial design concept :
The aim of the project is to create a series of accessories design corresponding to the style and the ethos of Pieces, which in the initial development, the connection between accessories and body, modular designs, rebellion, and exaggeration are elements that considered.
The selected inspiration is by the saying that ”if you got the back bones, you have the guts”, the series of design started from researching the rythm of spines, the connection and the structure.
Experiments; mock-ups; the fit, size and proportion amendments
Final design:
The final design of the collection is a whole body piece inclusive of one hat and three different function bags, designed in modular form, which can either be connected together with slightly weaving construction on the sides, or be separated from each other as individuals.
The form/ the shape of bags are design into soft touch but rigid aesthetic to meet the concept of the inspiration; details and sizing are made to fit the body curves. Each of the bags considered the utility of combined usage and separated usage and wearing.
The material/ the suede with special surface treatment are used as the main grain side of the bags to give the rusted vibe corresponding PIECES ethos; the linings and the reinforcements are composed with responsible lamb skin and recycled veg-tanned leather to persist the longevity of the products. All the leather pieces are connected to the neck and front garment part, which is made with PIECES's iconic material of recycle denim.
